class action
"An action brought by one or several plaintiffs on behalf of an entire class of persons. A class action may be appropriate when there has been injury to so many people that they are voluntary and unanimously joining in a lawsuit is improbable and impracticable. In such a situation, injured parties who wish to do so may with the courts permission, sue on behalf of all. A class action is sometimes referred to as a representative action."
